The deteriorating air quality in Delhi has prompted the enforcement of GRAP Stage 4 restrictions starting Monday, as the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) hit 457 at 7 PM on Sunday, crossing into the “severe plus” category. These measures aim to curb emissions and mitigate health risks as pollution levels reach alarming highs.

All stations in Delhi recorded an AQI over 400 on Sunday, with Bawana (490), Ashok Vihar (487) and Wazirpur (483) appearing as the most polluted at the 7 pm mark.

Around 38% of the pollution in New Delhi this year has been caused by stubble burning - a practice where stubble left after harvesting rice is burnt to clear fields - in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana, according to SAFAR, a weather forecasting agency under the ministry of earth sciences.
