Top Justice Department antitrust officials have decided to ask a judge to force Alphabet Inc.’s Google to sell off its Chrome browser in what would be a historic crackdown on one of the world’s biggest tech companies.

Now, Alphabet, Google’s parent company, may be forced to sell Chrome. The browser, which was launched in 2008 and integrates with Google’s search engine, is used today by some 3.4 billion people worldwide.

Justice Department is pushing for radical reforms, including the sale of Chrome and new data-sharing rules, to curb Google’s monopoly in search and AI.
