Max Verstappen took a surprise pole position for Sunday’s British Grand Prix to lift the recent gloom surrounding Red Bull, as McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris could only take second and third on the grid.

McLaren's Zak Brown thought his drivers would be competing against the Ferrari drivers for pole after their great pace in Free Practice, but instead, it was Max Verstappen taking pole position from the field for the 44th time in his career.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen took pole position for the British Grand Prix on Saturday with McLaren's Formula One leader Oscar Piastri alongside on the front row. McLaren's Lando Norris qualified third with Mercedes' George Russell fourth and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton fifth.
