What happens to SNAP benefits already loaded onto EBT cards, in accounts on Nov. 1 deadline?
Unless the federal government shutdown is ended, benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will end Nov. 1. It’s the nation’s largest anti-hunger program, serving nearly 42 million people nationwide.
America has a lifeline against hunger: ultra-processed foods. Millions of the poorest Americans are stuck in food-stamp limbo. They still do not know when their benefits will arrive—or if they will at all.
However, SNAP benefits typically roll over month to month, allowing a recipient to spend any unused money on their EBT card up to 274 days after it was issued, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Services (DTA).
President Trump hasn’t tapped emergency funds to cover the program, though a court ruling could force a change.
