San Antonio enters tonight’s match-up in Phoenix still trying to convince the rest of the league (and perhaps themselves) that their recent stretch of competent basketball is something sturdier than a passing breeze.

The Minnesota Timberwolves lost an eight-point lead in the final 50 seconds Friday night in Phoenix during a 114-113 NBA Cup loss to the upstart Suns. They lost something else over the final minute and a half, too, according to Wolves head coach Chris Finch.

The Phoenix Suns' game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Nov. 18 had a scheduled start time of 9 p.m., one of three late games the Suns will play.

The chopping block: In tonight’s NBA Cup action, some teams will have the chance to move one step closer to advancing to the next round, while others are on the verge of elimination. Those who fall in the middle will be competing to the final whistle, as point differential is used as the final tiebreaker for the current stage.

The Oklahoma City Thunder faced the Pacers in an NBA Finals rematch in the second game of the season, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander carried them to a double-overtime win. Of his 55 points, SGA scored 23 at the free throw line while making just two three-pointers in the game.

Phoenix Suns are coming off a 124-122 loss to the Atlanta Hawks in having their five-game winning streak snapped.

The 35-year-old will have to find another way to contribute versus Phoenix. The Blazers allowed 278 points in their last two games combined, so they must stand strong defensively versus Devin Booker and the visiting Suns.
