The head of Georgia’s Central Electoral Commission was doused with black paint at a meeting to confirm the results of the country’s divisive parliamentary elections.

A trial is set to get underway for a man accused of killing a Georgia nursing student earlier this year, in a case that fanned the immigration debate in the last election cycle.

David Kirtadze, member of former president Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement (UNM), splashed black paint on Central Election Commission chairman, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, resulting in an eye injury, a video broadcast on local TV channels showed.
