US President-elect Donald Trump has named "big tech" critic Brendan Carr to lead the US communications regulator, after he takes office in January 2025. Carr has attacked what he sees as the censorship of conservative viewpoints by top social media firms other than X,

Carr, the senior Republican on the agency, has of late embraced the president-elect's ideas about social media and tech.

Carr last week accused big tech firms including Meta, Alphabet, Apple and Microsoft of taking steps to censor Americans. Are Republicans likely to push back if Trump bypasses the Senate to install cabinet picks?
