MINNEAPOLIS — The NBA postponed Saturday night’s game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors at Target Center hours after the fatal shooting of a city resident by federal agents in south Minneapolis. The league said the decision was made to “prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community.”
The Timberwolves took the Target Center floor for warmups before their 123-111 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night, Jan. 29, with a new warmup shirt. The black T-shirts read “Stand with Minnesota” and are meant to be a gesture of support and call for unity across the state in the wake of the Minneapolis shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents.
As the Timberwolves ran out onto the Target Center floor for pre-game warmups ahead of Thursday’s win over the Thunder, they all did so sporting black warm-up shirts that read “Stand with Minnesota” in response to this month’s tragic losses of Renée Good and Alex Pretti, who were both shot to death by federal immigration officers.
The Dallas Mavericks returned home to open a two-game homestand starting with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. However, the Timberwolves beat the Mavericks 118-105 at the American Airlines Center.
