Chronic stress places ongoing pressure on the body, and the immune system adjusts its behavior in response. Stress related hormones circulate for long periods when the body remains tense or worried. These hormones alter how immune cells talk to each other through chemical messages called cytokines. Some cytokines become more active while others become less available. This shift changes the balance between inflammation and repair. When stress continues, immune cells release more of the cytokines
